Open models can widen access to capability, lower experimentation costs and create alternatives to a small number of providers. They also move more responsibility to the people who deploy them: security, updates, data provenance and downstream misuse.

Openness is not a single virtue. It is a distribution of power and obligations. The useful question is who can inspect the system, who can repair it and who bears the cost when the model leaves the lab.

Robotics

A robot that can move still needs a worksite

Robotics coverage often begins with the body: can the machine walk, grasp, see or navigate? Deployment begins somewhere less cinematic. It begins with a worksite, a task boundary, a maintenance plan and a person who knows when to stop the machine.

Agents

The agent platform is becoming a product

OpenAI’s Agents API turns a familiar promise into a managed service: developers can now build cloud agents that run code, work with files, create artifacts and coordinate subagents inside environments provisioned by OpenAI.
