Red teaming is most useful when it changes a system before the system changes the world. Anthropic’s 2025 frontier-red-team reporting showed how external probing can expose failure modes that ordinary product testing misses.

The method is not a guarantee. It is a disciplined way to search for failure, document the boundary and feed the result back into safeguards. As models gain tools and longer horizons, the red team must test the whole system—not only the model’s words.
