ChatGPT agent combined web research, browser interaction, terminal work and external data access in one system. The important transition was from separate tools to a single workflow that could investigate and act.

That convenience also joins separate risk surfaces. A browser can encounter hostile instructions; a terminal can change files; a connector can expose private data. An agent that crosses those boundaries needs a policy for transitions, not only a model that performs well within each tool.
