Buying an agent is not only buying software. It is choosing a provider’s defaults for memory, data retention, tool access, oversight and incident response. Procurement teams are therefore making policy even when the contract is written as a technology purchase.

The useful checklist is operational: what identities can the agent use, where does data go, how are actions logged, who can revoke access and what happens after a failure? The cheaper demo can become the more expensive institution if those questions are left blank.
