A cyber threshold is not a cyber proof

OpenAI’s Astra safety account says the model meets a critical cybersecurity capability threshold: with the right tools and access, it can find unknown vulnerabilities and develop exploits across well-protected systems without step-by-step human guidance.

That is an important disclosure. It is also a claim with a defined owner, evaluation method and policy context. A threshold designation is not the same thing as a public demonstration of general cyber performance, and a company’s preparedness framework is not an independent audit.

The public record should hold both facts at once. Frontier cyber claims deserve serious safeguards, but also reproducible evaluations, external review and clarity about what the model was actually allowed to access. Security decisions become stronger when alarm and evidence are required to share a room.
