# Claude 4 made the agent stack feel ordinary

Claude 4 arrived as a model release, but its significance was architectural. Reasoning, coding, tool use and long-running work were being presented as parts of one agent stack rather than isolated product tricks.

That convergence makes the surrounding controls more important. A model that can work longer can also accumulate more authority, stale assumptions and unreviewed changes. The agent era begins when the system around the model can explain what happened.
